Ingredients

⅓ cup shortening½ cup white sugar1 egg½ cup molasses½ cup water2 cups self-rising flour½ teaspoon salt1 teaspoon ground ginger½ teaspoon ground nutmeg½ teaspoon ground cloves½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
Directions

Cream the shortening, sugar, egg, molasses and water. Mix in the flour, salt, ginger, nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon. Cover and chill for 1 hour.Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C).Drop teaspoonfuls of dough onto ungreased cookie sheets about 2 inches apart. Bake for about 8 minutes.
